ABC of Islam. (Post 218)

Following 9/11 in 2001, I was asked to speak about Islam at a few church groups and my Rotary Club and at several other Rotary functions in Toronto. Here is a short overview of Muslims and their belief prepared for a non Muslim audience. (1)    Muslims believe in the strict Oneness of God .  God has no gender or shape or form that we can comprehend. God is without any equal, Eternal. Nothing precedes Him, He is without any end. He is the First and the Last. He knows everything….  .   (2) Belief in the prophets, who received  God’s revelations from Abraham to Prophet Mohammed, the last prophet, through whom the Quran was revealed. Jesus is a prophet and not a son of God. God sent his message to other people but those messengers are not mentioned. (3) Belief In the Day of Judgment when everything ends. There is no free pass for Muslims, who will be judged like everyone else based on deeds and actions. Islam has no defined cl...

The Silk Road route in the mountanious region of Pakitan. (Post 213)

The Silk Road. Traders and travelers on the silk road would have seen vistas like the one blow when they crossed the mountainous area of Pakistan. The silk road brought prosperity to Muslim regions and China in the golden age of Islam. These pictures were taken during our travels many years ago.  We get old but mountains retain their beauty. In geological time however, tectonic forces and erosion may change their shape and form or make them disappear.

Masnavi of Rumi. Let us besech ((ask).....Post 210.

Maulana Jalal-Uddin Rumi was born in 1207 in Balkh now in Afghanistan and died in 1273 and is buried in Konia, Turkey.  Here is aselection from his Masnavi. Let us beseech(ask) God to help us to self-control (adab); he who lacks self control Is deprived (deprived) of the grace of the God; The undisciplined man does not corrupt himself alone; he sets the whole world afire. Whatever befalls thee of gloom and sorrow is the result of thy irreverence and indolence. Anyone behaving with irreverence in the path of the Friend is a brigand who robs men: He is no man. Through discipline Heaven was filled with light, Through discipline the angels become immaculate and holy. By reasons of irreverence the Sun is eclipsed, and insolence caused “Azazil to be turned back from the door.

.Taj Mahal in Agra India built by Shahjahan. (Post 204))

Muslim Monuments. Taj Mahal in Agra India was commissioned by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. The work commenced in 1632 and completed in 1653. Please note that marble in this picture is shinier because this is a old picture. I took it in 1968 before the expansion polluting industries in the Agra region took place.  UNISCO restoration has improved the complex.
